    Post Alloy Wheels

    Hi Everyone,

    Happy new year!

I am after some new alloys for my coupe, preferably some 17" Turbo ones!

Does anyone know of any shops that sell second hand wheels, I know they come up on here now and then plus on the fleebay?

Also can you tell me if any other make of cars ie. Volkswagen, Audi wheels fit on Vauxhalls?

    Thanks

    Al

best place as rightly pointed out would probs be the classifieds here or ebay - u could also check any vx salvage specialists or even the classifieds and auto trader etc.

As for other rims - There arent any that I can think of off the top of my head that fit directly onto the 5x110 stud pattern of the Astra - saying that though u can easily fit VAG rims (5x112) with the assistance of offset bolts (commonly called wobbly bolts) these have a rotating collar that take up the difference (max of 2mm either side of the pitch circle diamater thus enabling u to fit 5x108 upto 5x112 without any problems) and allow the rim to be mated up to the hub face as per normal. These are perfectly safe to use but u would also need a wobbly locking bolt and not a standard locker.

VAG rims IMO can look the dogs danglies fitted to Astras so it might be something to consider. Just ensure the offset is within the limitations of your car, together with the usual tyre sizes etc.

Check out this link for given tyre sizes/wheel offsets etc: http://www.m1gst.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1307

There are also a few models within the Mercedes and Ford range (amongst others) that have a 5x112 stud pattern that could also be fitted to your car without any problems.

    Two answers....

    YES they will fit....

    BUT

    Not very well

    For instance they are 8" x 18" with a 35mm offset.

To keep things simple and to prevent any rubbing/clearance issues - the offset needs to be 45-49mm on a 8" wide rim. The tyre size is also far from ideal and will without doubt cause several clearance issues.

Your best bet if going for 18s is to try and find a 7 or 7.5" wide rim - although in practice a 7.5 is more realistic. The offset would then need to be at least 40mm (42-49 in the guide - but I have 40 with no problems)

The tyre would also need to be 215/35/18 although some ppl have wider rims with wider tyres but without knowing ur particular setup and whether u want to have the arches modified - id strongly advise the proven size of 215/35/18

So basically - if ur lookin at VAG rims - try and find an offset of at least 40+ . . . . unfortunately the standard VAG rims I believe are mid 30's so this could be a problem.

There is however aftermarket VAG style rims which could be an option - although probably over priced.

Best off keep searching on ebay and see what ya find.

    Ideal: 7.5" wide, 18" diamater, 40+ offset, 215.35.18 rubber

    Good luck!
