    Help Identifying a problem?

Basically ive noticed a funny noise with my coupe turbo.

It isnt that clear when i first start driving, say after about 5 mins you begin to hear it.

Ive opened the bonnet after 5 mins of driving as I say, and theres like a whine noise coming from either the alternator or by the cam cover area, cant work out where :s

On idle, if i gently dabb the throttle, it does it a bit then, and then quietens down, and so on, but when I just got back, the noise was consistent.

I know its hard to identify from my description, but any ideas?

When i was out last night driving, it was ok just normal driving but felt like when i put my foot down there was a ticking(cant think how to describe it, asif metal was being frayed :s) so i backed off.

The next time i tried this just to hear the noise better, i did it for a few seconds more , and then engine management light came on (the car with the spanner through) and then as soon as I backed off, the light went off.

    Any ideas please

check your alternator belt for tightness, it could also indicate cam belt/ pully wear which could be serious, not sure though without hearing it!

Could be alternator drivebelt or alternator bearings, cambelt or balancer shaft pulley bearings or water pump. Most of which could be serious (apart from alternator) - get it checked out asap imo. Any metallic grinding noise is likely to get worse quickly!

its really hard to explain the noise, reckon i'd be best taking it to vauxhall just to see, any ideas how much they charge for a "look" at it?

sounds like its a pully/pully bearing or the water pump.

I had a similar problem on my Old Sri, turned out to be one of the cambelt tensioner bearings was shot... Managed to get it sorted by Vx as they replaced them not to long before...

I would deffinately get it checked out asap if one of them go it makes a right mess..
