    Question Voltage regulation issue?

I have just fitted a volt meter into the car. With the engine off i get 12v (as expected) then when the engine is running (driving) i get the usual 14-14.5v, but somtimes when idling the voltage drops to 13v and as I blip the throttle it jumps back up to 14v. Is this normal or is my alternator faulty

when your car is on idle your voltage should be slightly lower than when driving

Your battery should be at 12.6v when the engine is swtched off and on tick over i would expect about 13.2 ish volt then to go up to somewhere around the 14 v.

Sounds perfectly normal - alternators put out 14ish volts, so you'll see that when engines running.

On idle it will drop as the loading on the circuit increases - try whacking all the electrics on and it'll drop some more, but give it a blip and it goes back up again.
