Not sure how much help anyone here can be (i've searched and searched the net, but I have to pay a premium rate to call the british commission here!), but, this is what I want, as simple as possible!
My grandpa was born in Kenya (1914). This i BELIEVE was a british colony. I understand that he worked for the british government at some stage too. My dad was born in India, Bombay, 1952, in i BELIEVE british colony, or possibly had british citizenship (my grandpa was very anti-indian!).... Now I want to apply for an ancestory visa for the UK. As I understand, my grandpa would have been a british citizen, or something like that, IF i need to, i can (or will have to!) send off for the original documents, etc.
Does anyone know if they can help out in finding out more info?! I'm seriously wondering here, because i KNOW my grandpa moved around heaps, lots and lots, and as I understand worked for the british secret service or something of the like in previous years. I am fairly certain that he did not LIVE in the UK, but in british colonies.
Does anyone have info as to how I can go about finding out information? Is there any sites that I can (or someone can help me with... PM if you can ) find out about these details? I'm stuck, i've got dates for birth and cities, etc. But grandpa really isn't of the mind to be talking about this stuff and as I understand I can apply to get a copy of his birth certificate anyway (as it's via post... ). ANYONE have any info? Sorry it's a bit long winded. I know (or am pretty darn certain) that grandpa is an aussie citizen now (and possibly gave up british citizenship to get it?). I'm sure my dad is aussie as he has an australian passport (I don't speak to him anymore, but as i understand i can get the docs regardless, i.e. without him)....
