Just a couple of n00b questions...

    Hi,

I really want a mk4 Astra, but have to save up so planning on getting one (SXi or SRi depending on insurance!) in the new year.

I'm already planning some mods but have a couple of questions.

If I buy a car with a normal rear spoiler, how easy is it to replace it with a GSi spoiler? i.e. are the mounting holes in the same place?

    Also, what's a splitter?

I really want HIDs too, do you have to buy shark eyes or angel eyes then get a conversion kit or what? i.e. what's the cheapest way of doing so? The thought of £100 on lights isn't appealing...

I'm sure I have more but can't think at the moment!

    Cheers!

A splitter is a add-on to either front or rear bumper, also known as a front spoiler.

HID's can be fitted to standard head lights, but will give better output with sharkeyes. Angel eyes have the worst light output. You would be looking at nearer £300 for a set of HID's + sharkeyes.

this is the Irmscher front splitter for MK4 hatch, it replaces the flexible piece of rubber that the bumper has along the bottom as standard

The SRi is likely to be the cheaper out of the 2 for insurance. I have a 1.8 SRi model on an 03 plate, I'm 24 with 4 years no claims protected discount, and my renewal quote (due in about a week) is £317 fully comp. I think a big factor in it is that it has a full Cat 1 alarm system on it.

I disagree with Stevie1556 - the SXi 1.6 is Group 5, SXi 1.8 is Group 7, SRi 1.8 is Group 8, SRi 2.0 is Group 11, I'm not sure about the SRi 2.2.

personally i would go for a sri, you get a couple of extra bits that the sxi doesnt:
    spoiler
    cat 1 alarm
    electric heated wingmirrors

there maybe something else but i cant think of it at the mo.
the sri is one group higher on the insurance as ruperts trooper said altho i think its worth it.
coupes are one group higher from the sri's (from what ive seen)
Fitted options: Folding mirrors, cruise control, dual tone horn, remap.
    Next: Bluetooth

I am tempted by the SRi but it'll depend on how much I can find one for too. The only thing above that appeals to me is the cat 1 alarm, as I'll be putting a GSi spoiler on anyways.
