car electrics acting strange - astra g

    I have an astra mk4,

recently when starting the car, sometimes the heating will work and sometimes it wont.

Then when starting the car the heating would come on if i left the engine to warm up.

Yesterday went out and everythign seemed ok, heating was on fine. But when i turned the headlights on the led's in the headlight controls were flickering. I turned the car off and back on.

The time and date display did not light up, it also has led's.

    This has not worked since.

gonna check fuses tomorrow, any ideas of what to check.

    cheers

    Nick

Sounds like your LED's are loose, or the fuse(s) for the dash and controls are loose. If the heating isn't working I would say check the coolant level first off.

Is this a 'new' car?? Been sold a Lemon?? Recently had it in a garage for some work to be done??

had the car a year this month, i have had no problems with it in the past year, apart from faults i have known about when i purchased it,

got the car on the garden atm cos tax is due tomorrow.

Gonna check fuses and led's over tomorrow..

Was in garage around 6 months ago when it was serviced

In what way does the heating not work, blowers not go or no heat. Does the temperature guage work move?

the heating comes on in the car once the engine has heated up, if i try to turn it on before the car has heated up nothing happens at all.

Thought it could possibly be a fuse,

now the mfd display is blank, it has a blue led.

Any chance i have melted some wires behind the center console.

Gonna take the console out on saturday and see if i can spot anythign odd :P.

Last day or so heating has come on fine as soon as i start the car.

Also noticed when turning headlights on, on monday, the led's within the headlight controls flickered, altho i know they go dimmer when u turn headlights on anyway, they just flickered for a few seconds.

Now that the mfd isnt working the heating is working fine. could it be something to do with the mfd that is causing the problems

Unlikely you have melted anything just something unplugged somewhere

I do hope when you say heating you mean the blower it's self

the blue LED in MFD showing blank means one of two things:

    1) the LED is the wrong way round (they only light in one direction)
    2) the LED you bought is crap and isn't bright enough to shine through the orange filter you potentially have in your MFD.

ok and in response to your remarks,

    1. the led has been in fine for over 5 months and was working perfectly, it has suddenly stopped working.

    2. My car is a 1998 and lucky for me does not have a orange filter.

    3. i purchased these so called "crap led's" from evil and i can assure you they are far from crap.

I will investigate into the led when i have time, it could of possibly come loose

take the LED out and test it then - unlikely they have both blown but possible if there was a voltage spike caused by something else shorting out!!

    did you check the fuses??

only other thing I can think of is something come loose behind the dash (either around the heater area, or round the top MFD etc)
