    idle air control

    i can some one tell me where the idle air control is on a mk4 astra 1.8 16v t reg as when its cold the chark dont work tidy. many thanks carl

    Unlike earlier Vauxhalls, it doesn't have a separate idle control valve. There's a stepper motor built into the throttle body which adjusts the throttle itself.

    The throttle body can get a bit "gungy" with oil/fumes after a while so take the inlet trunking off the throttle body and give it a good clean with carb cleaner.

    If that's not the problem, it's probably electronic - sensor, air flow meter etc. Is the engine management light coming on on the dash?

    I presume you mean "automatic choke". They haven't been used since '92 when carburettors were replaced by fuel injection and catalytic converters..

    Fuel injected engines adjust the fuel flow and idle speed electronically to cope with start up, compensating for air temperature and pressure, warming up and normal running.

    i what tells the ecu when its cold so it can adjust the fuel flow and idle speed

    Air temperature sensor which is integral with the airflow meter on an early Astra G 1.8 (X18XE1), I'm not sure about other versions.

    i its a X18XE1 engine it some times it work not mutch
