    Hand brake off.

It seams That the police are getting picky and dvd heads units must be wired via a hand brake this swith off the head unit when the hand brake is realised.
How would i go about doing this?
BTW yes a bypass would be fitted to ignore this feature.

    Bollocks to them....
I dont think they could enforce that at all....

if you wanted though you could wire it up as per instructions, but put a switch in-line so you can enable/disable the hand brake feature.

I agree, I can't see how they can enforce the fitment of such a feature, however they can enforce the law that prevents you from playing a DVD while driving if the screen can be viewed by the driver....so beware!
Tell me what you've done, not what you're going to!

It is a legal requirement (and has been for a while) that they are wired up to the handbrake as the law states something like you cannot view a screen (with moving pictures) unless it is an aid to the driver i.e Navigation screen. You can get done for it and fined as well from what I am told if they have seen moving pictures on the screen i.e. DVD playing etc.

But where it will get intersting is that a few new cars do not have a standard signal for the handbrake i.e. a few I have seen of late only have this signal in the canbus system, so it should be quite interseting trying to explain this to the police.

i doubt any police man/women would pull you over for it unless its really obvious your watching it/swerving over the road, causing danger to others etc. Drive saftley and normaly and they wont bother.

A dvd / tv in view of the driver is only legal if it's automatically switched off either by the ignition being turned on or a handbrake switch (which could be an aftermarket switch if the vehicle doesn't already have one).

Aids to navigation, ie satnav, are permitted in view of the driver.

I'd have thought it was really easy to Police at night....

How many times have you been driving along on the motorway and seen satnav or other screens lighting up the inside of another car.

Satnav - although legal is a ridiculous distraction for most it would seem, and also any light inside the car when it's dark and there aren't street lights can significantly impair your ability to see out properly.

DVD players/TV's whilst moving are illegal if in view of the driver and have been for about 20 years (my uncle used to have a TV in his truck). Making it so it switches off with either the handbrake or ignition was supposed to be a 'gentleman's agreement' between the manufacturers and police to stop them needing to enforce it, but it would seem that has been forgotten.
    0-60 in 6.5 secs and 48mpg- winner!
