I'm new and thinking about getting an Astra next!

    i currently drive a saxo furio (1.4) http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3..._uk/car006.jpg

soon im looking to get something a little bigger and quicker. one car i've considered is a mk4 astra. probably a 1.8/2.0 sri, although i'd like a coupe, they tend to cost more.

i dont know much about astras so if you can recommend which ones to go for, that would be good. im also considering insurance prices as im 21, but the astra seems to be in low(ish) group anyway.

    thanks

Welcome to AS fella, you can't go far wrong with an Astra - but then I would say that! They are really good on the insurance too, low insurance groups.

My old one is for sale (shameless plug)

    Welcome to Astrasport

you will get slightly boyiest opinions here.

i have owned mine for 6 months, overal its a good car, MK4 2.0 SRI, insurance aint too bad, interior has rattles (seems to be common) and i have had to replace the manifold, but bar that i love the car and have no bad stories to tell

that was the one i was gonna go for, a mk4 2.0 sri i think. seems to be a good balance. insurance group 11 i think, which i have quotes of £900 for. my current car was £680. no ncb yet you see... but with 1yr's ncb its only £573. bargain!

you shouldnt be dissapointed if you get an astra dude. One thing I will say, have you thought of a 1.8 over a 2.0? Speed and performance wise theres really nothing in it. Supposedly a 1.8 is quicker to 60, but a 2.0 is quicker in all other respects so its swings and roundabouts.

plus a 1.8 sri like mine is only insurance group 9 !! an sxi group 7 !! major savings there over a 2.0. Plus if you get an sri, it would be the same spec as a 2.0 anyway. Good luck finding one mate.

    I bought a 1.8 SXi for £2800 after owning a 1.25 2004 plate Fiesta.

Dude, you will not regret getting an Astra.
