    Rattle

Ive got an awful rattle coming from inside the cam belt compartment. It gets louder as it builds up rev's. For some reason, it seems to go away when the engine reaches temperature. Ive been told that it could be a loose cam belt roller. Ive also been told that it could be my water pump on its way out.

    Has anyone had similar problems?

Car is an Astra 1.6 16v sxi

http://www.m1gst.com/vb/showthread.php?t=85859 - slightly different symptoms to you, but FFS whatever you do, get it looked at ASAP. It'll cost you a couple of hundred quid to have the cam belt done if it is, but it's cheapr than a couple bags of sand for a new engine!

Couple of hundred quid for a cam belt!! Don't know where you get stuff done mate but thats expensive! Im on my second mk4 astra now. I had to replace the waterpump on my old one which cost me £100 incl fitting.

Anyways, thanks for the advice. Will get it down to my mechanic asap.

Indeed, it does depend where you go, I had a mate do mine on my old car, and it was about a ton. I assumed you would be going to a garage.

Its been sorted. The belt had gone slack. Decided to change it anyways. £130 all in.
