A few years ago I bought my car from a main dealer. I always took it back to them for servicing and never had a problem until a few months ago. I will not name names or give locations - unless asked by email.
After a service and MOT the car didn't feel right, so I took it back and they said "nothing wrong with it". Most of us know our cars and anything unusual shows immediately.
Then I checked and found too much oil, the old air and oil filters in place and my brakes were still grinding at the back.
After a lot of messing about and reporting them to the head office nothing was done. Complaints were ignored. Trading Standards were useless as they have no real power to do anything anyway. No interest from them. They said they might investigate if a number of people approached them but didn't have the funding and garages are a low priority. Obviously people selling pirated DVDs are more important.
Today I took the car to an independant local garage and got a shock. I had not mentioned the past events, I just said I would like a winter check and service. Some jobs on a car I would not attempt and to be quite honest, wouldn't know what to look for.
The car that has recently passed an MOT had a broken rear spring and corroded brake pipe which is leaking. The brake adjustor link at the back had been broken so that the brakes didn't work at the back properly in an attempt to make me think the dealer had fixed a previous problem, the brake fluid and cambelt (plus rollers/tensioner) had never been changed and there were various smaller problems.
I am just SO annoyed a main dealer would do this and that Trading Standards were not interested. It has put me right off going near a main dealer again as I can't trust them. The car did slide out of control a few days ago and the broken spring explains it as I do not race!
is it just me or have others had a bad experience at a garage?
