Advice: Viking ZRT Hydra Mountain Bike - How do people rate these

    Hi,

Just wondering what peoples opinions were on a Viking ZRT Hydra Mountain bike.

Seems to be well spec'd but opinions are often best for real like advice and use.

Will be hopefully buying second hand.

Never heard of them in my entire life, IMO probably just another halfords style bike. Also don't be impressed by the brands on the bike, cheap stuff by good companies is no better than any other cheap stuff.

    You checked out www.chainreactioncycles.com www.wiggle.com or www.evanscycles.co.uk ?

How much you got to spend and does it need to be full sus? Theres some really good deals on old model Treks (which are great bikes at RRP) on www.paulscycles.co.uk (i think thats the site, google it if needs be)

Also, general rule of thumb - if it has hydraulic discs on a bike at that price then other stuff will have been compromised.

Looks okay at a glance but that frame doesn't look too hot.

A full sus bike for under £500 is dodgy.

I'd get a hardtail - They start getting decent at that price.

You need £1000+ for full sus that won't instantly collapse.

Currently got a full mech disk brake Front Sus Claud Butler hardtail.

The price of this will be £150 with hopfuly delivery on top of that as its located in Liverpool, but can't get down there to collect.

At that price I think its very tempting, needs £30 of work on it though

Do you REALLY need full sus?

Maybe Google it and look for reviews but I'd be even more careful 2nd hand.

Taking the second hand route on ebay could be the way to go. Bikes go for rediculous prices on there.

I cant beleive nobody bid on this:

Not bad for £150 if its just a run about bike, but then again run about bikes are probably better with hardtails IMO.

Whats the £30 worth of work, and whats wrong with the Claude Butler?

As for the yeti im not surprised, although its well specced its a high starting price, especially as people are always wary of DH bikes and the abuse theyve been given.

Needs new hanger and one of the front brake seals done.

Have a look on VVOC, its advertised on there....

Nothing wrong with the Claud Butler, well apart from needing a new tube and tyre due to a bulge. Rear brake could be better, so will need to replace that.

Just wanted another bike and for the money and the parts that are fitted I thought it was a good buy. Difficult is gettig it couriered as unable to collect from Liverpool.

even if I sound like a snob, please don't buy this sh*te. It'll be heavy, fragile, unresponsive and unreliable. Spend your money on a second hand good bike. Look at Giant, Specialised, Trek, Mongoose etc
