Yep, it will increase crankcase pressure, and can cause frothing of the oil and possibly blow the crank seals, plus a few other nasties.

But that all depends on how much it's over filled by

it wont do your engine any harm putting diesel oil in, the oil used in diesels is a much higher quality than petrol oil, its not recommended by manufactures but the oil contains more lubricants than standard petrol oil

My mate did the headgasket of his 106 by putting 5 litres of oil in (didn't know how much was in there already) and my other mate had to totally flush his engine several times after he asked his little brother to top it up while he was doing something else, so his little brother did fill it up........with petrol! he brimmed it too and was really proud of himself! my mates heart sank! god knows what would of happened if he had tried to start it and it actually fired! :-O

Other nasty is an engine fire which i have seen caused by over filling the oil! It was a Dawoo Nexia 2.0 c20xe (yep they used the engine as well as the astra mk2 body!) there was so much pressure the oil was beening forced out from the filler cap and onto the manifold hence the fire!!!!

On a turbo car it'll blow the turbo seals pretty quick to.
