    Oh no. . . . . . .

Just been attempting to change my discs and pads, but due to the top guide bolt on the caliper (or a weak alan key) the bolt wouldn't turn so therefore the alan key end snapped off inside it.

Gutted!! Gunna take her to a local garage this week see if they have any luck getting it out. Me and my dad have been on for a couple of hours trying to drill, chissle it out, but no joy.

Royaly peed off like, all the other guide bolts came loose easily and the discs holding screws came out easily too.

One bolt wrong and the whole job is FUBAR. Really need them changing soon to there's about 1-2mm of pad left.

heating it up most prob wont work as you said it makes the metal expand, botht eh hole and bolt/pin are metal therefor will both expand a bit

try heating it up need to be quite hot though, the metal will expand and thats the whole point, different metals expand at different rates.

sounds good but I aint got anything I can heat it up with. No camping torch or anything like. Looks like it's going to the garage, I'll have to get a new bolt from VX as well as I'm thinking this one will be no good once its out.

    Cheers guys

got a box of matches? :P

    you tried :
    1. hammer at the bolt like randomly to make it a bit looser and free it a lil bit
    2. get a really sharp thin flat head screw driver and hammer it in the side and lever it out..
    3. spray some wd40 or similar whilst leavering etc as it may get in there and free it up...
    4. loose your temper and smash the s**t out of it till it comes out :P

some things i may try! you say drilling it didnt work?

go to wilko or something and get a chefs blowtorch, used for glazing sugar etc, good lil handy blow torches need some gas for it ad you have the tool to heat it up, only like £5 better than paying a garage..

would lend you mine(mums) if you werent so far away!

    Matches is an idea.

Tried all those except number 4. Cant bray my astra, thats sacralidge (sp?). No drilling didn't work, didn't want to loose the alan key head. Got the middle drilled out but didn't want to go to the edges with it as said.

Just thought there, you do see a bit of the bolt. behind the disc as highlighted in the pic (I know they are a right staight, hence why I'm changing them.)

Could drill a hole in there and use something to get it turning or if there is access hacksaw it out. I'll look into it tomorrow morning. Thanks for advise guys.

is in the caliper or the carrier?
Might be worth your while getting a new steering nuckle and change that as they have tendancy of threading when taking the bolt out.
About 20 squid from a scrappy just be carefull the car you get it from aint been in a front end smash ect as I brought one and it was slightly bent and couldnt get the car tracked up at all
