    Angry 17's rubbing on mk4?

Sorry in advance for the long tread.
I have a set of snowflakes on above mentioned astra.
Fitted 5 stud hubs ,308's and a clet engine.
    I have a Eibach 30mm suspension kit fitted for a 1.6sxi.
My front tyres, size 215/40/17 are rubbing the inside wall of the tyre on the bottom of the spring seat on the strut.
The rear tyres are catching on the 2 screws retaining the plastic guard
inside the wheel arch. But size on the rear is 225/45/17.I know they are too big but that is how I bought them a mk4 zlet.Must say they are geat in tight corners! The front size is more worrying as that is supposed to be oe spec?
    Hope this querry makes sence.

is this on a mk4 then???? i am amazed that standard wheels are rubbing, especially as mines about -50mm on 18" and fully loaded never rubs!!!!! hence why im looking at buying some 19"s!!! somethings wrong with the set up, you got spacers on????

no spacers but i'm stumped too as you do not hear it,saw the smooth inside on the corner of the tyre walls this afternoon when I replaced a shot gearbox mount.Maybe the cause is all the sleeping police men in London?
My first thought was maybe the heavier engine?

THe 1.6 springs aren't gonna be helping at all as the front of the car is much heavier now, and if the shocks are for a 1.6, they are gonna be working overtime.

The rear is just a case of the wrong tyres, I suspect.

so Ffoeg what do you recommend I do now 'cause there is about 3.5" before the tyre meets named dish.Springs and shocks is for 1.6 sxi. Do I replace both or can springs only be an option(adjustable ones?)

if it was rubbing or not i would get some decent suspension on it, preferably coilovers! but i still think something isnt right if the wheels are rubbing on the lower spring seat!

Shocks and srpings would be the best bet, as standard 1.6 shocks are gonna wear out quickly trying to react to the forces generated by heavier rate springs.

Or at least try and pick up a standard GSi suspension kit, someone should have a set knocking about in the garage or shed

Does it scuff all the time or just on full bounce?

Just on full bounce. Recon it has to travel about 3 to 3.5" by the looks of it to rub.thought maybe a descent set of shocks like the koni 8611 series?
