    Post Forum problems 5/11/2006

Our apologies for the forum problems today.

Some of you will be aware that we had some technical issues with the forum, this meant that you were unable to post any replies or new threads. It also meant any new accounts made today will have to re-join due to the database error.

AstraSport is having a very high growth rate at present and the memory allocated for us was completely used up (unexpectedly!). So the databases shut down to ensure they didn't crash, once we upgraded with the host we were able to get the forums working correctly again. Just as well as we had over 5000 report emails today telling us members were trying to post

Once again our apologies for the inconvenience, we don't make a habit of it as our older members know.

Any problems due to today's issues please feel free to contact MatG.

    Regards,

    The AstraSport Team

Just out of curiosity, where does the money come from for the server etc? Is it from sticker / t shirt sales etc?

Would it be an idea to start a 'donations' thing maybe? Just to save having to swallow costs?

I for one would be more than happy to contribute.

another forum im on was costing lots to run and they set up a paypal account and said anyone was able to donate if they wanted, even if it was a small amount, was totally anonomous and optional to if u dontaed at not. theres a constant banner at bottom of page which people can use to donate. within 2 days of banner going up they had donations to cover 3 years runnin costs. paid up for a few years and any spare went to charity

Surely when the site gains full club status and membership based then this would cover some of the costs. IMHO donations I would expect would be part of the setup too

No need to apologise for the problems anyway

Doesnt need to have full club status with membership fee's etc, just a 'donate to keep the site alive' thing? I have no idea how much a server is, how much web space is, maintainence etc etc.

I know it costs something though.

    *edit*

If mat wasnt needing to spend money on keeping AS going, M1GST might get finished quicker?!

Astra Sport has cost around £1500 this year to run maybe more. Either way we dont like down time and thankfully it doesnt happen very often

I am not a believer in asking people to donate when it comes to websites, having a donate facility is the same as asking for money. I would want to offer something in return for the money
