After test driving lots of cars and quizzing various people on different models, i finally plumbed for a 51 plate Europa Blue Astra Coupe Turbo. Being a coupe, its a bit different, its practical and having the turbo means its got a bit of go about it too..
I went to see half a dozen before finding this one, and every time i went to see them i'd find they'd have already been sold! So once this one came up, with the spec as well, i knew it was one i couldn't miss out on....even if it meant travelling a total of 520 miles to get it!
Anyway, today i gave it a quick clean in order to take some pics. I noticed straight away, that its literally covered in swirls. Clearly the previous owner loved his local car wash!
Quick hose pre-wash, then washed using 2 buckets, 2 Megs wash mitts and Autoglym shampoo. I dried it quickly with a Megs Water Magnet, but whilst drying, it was clear how rough the paint finish was. So next came the Megs Clay Bar. The light had started to go and knowing i wanted to take a few pics before darkness, i decided to just do a few parts for now. I did the roof, bonnet and top of the boot. The amount of dirt that came off was disgusting, as well as unbeliveable! The finish and feel of the paint is now soooo much better!!. I gave it another quick wash and rinsed off with the hose. Dried it all again, before giving the alloys and exhaust a quick polish over.
I know next time, it'll have to be properly clay bar'd all over, as well as being properly polished, waxed and sealed to get rid of the swirls and bring out a good glossy finish.
So for the time being, here's the pics -
Took this one before i'd cleaned inside... hence the mats are nice and black now..lol..
