    amps, subs, sound systems??? help........

    hey everyone...
im thinking of doing something to the sound system in my astra h.. its a totally standard cd player with nothing modified.. not even a head unit..

i want a louder car but no idea where to start

dont really wanna kit the car out with speakers all round, would much prefer just getting a sub..

can anyone help me on ideas where to start.. what to look for as regards brand equipment and actually fitting them...

    cheers

    What is your budget?

Under £250 will get you this:

    4ch Amp
    http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...b686db1590887a
    12"Sub
    http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...b686db1590887a
Speakers (Note: check size, swap for components if you want better SQ):

Then you're left with plenty to buy a wiring kit (4awg) and a subbox, unless you want to make one.

You'll have good SQ and plenty of loudness from that, don't be attracted by the 1000W claims from other brands. If you want even better SQ then I would spend a little more on some rainbow speakers.

depends what you want mate, if you just want something cheap and cheerful to give a bit of extra bass, look at places like caraudiodirect and caraudiosecurity. They often have bass deals for around £200 which normally include amp + sub + box +wiring

think it is possible but you need some sort of adaptor as the standard H/U doesn't have any RCA ouputs

As said before. Depends what you want and how much you wanna spend. Realistically, I think you'll need a new HU.

How much you looking to spend?

There are various websites that do cheap bass deals, or you could buy my sub and a seperate amp

I have a boxed Kicker L5 12" (650RMS Dual 2Ohm) sub for sale. Slight damage to one of the rubber corner surrounds, but its not letting air in or blowing, so its fine. It fell over and rubbed the side of the amp.. Works perfetly fine. Looking for £70, as was only used for about 2 months.

    PM if you're interested anyone.

Yeh, as above you can get an adaptor, or lookout for an amp with 'high level inputs' this means you also connect the speaker wires to it as well as RCA aleads.

It looks alright, a pretty good deal imo.

One thing you should consider I think, is the type of music you listen to.

Garage and dance etc, or any music with quick punches of bass will sound better on a small sub i.e. a 10" or 12" circle. (like what you linked to).

Hip Hop, Rap and any kind of music where the bass is a lower drone will sound much better on a larger sub i.e. a 15" circle or a 12" square sub or bigger. For example the 12" Kicker L5 square I previously posted about (plug ) will rumble your tits off, but its not the punchiest of them..

That said, there are some 10" and 12" circles out there that will rumble well! The alpine type R's are some of them and the JL W series subs - but they're going into a higher price range.

It all really depends how much you wanna spend mate and how close your attention to good sound is.

If you go for an aftermarket HU (I would recommend it) for the setup you've suggested, you'd need something like this:

    http://www.motor-world.co.uk/kroozin...?prod_id=10533

that doesn't look like it includes an RCA cable, so you'd need an RCA to RCA too (about £10)

If you go for a higher powered setup, you'd need bigger cabling and perhaps a better quality shielded RCA cable (£20 - £30).

This setup would cost you around £350 all in (with a HU).

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask more! This all keeps me busy at work
