Remember oil consumption can be upto 1 litre per 1000 miles (I'm sure it was that bad), as stated by vauxhall.

shocking - but it does happen on some motors..not really common thankfully.

Oil should be checked at least weekly...
..on a sunday, when your checking tyre pressures, AND washing it

Your not the only one with having to spend more money on oil than petrol..

My car uses aprox 1 ltr every 1000 miles as i just tested this yesterday... From Max to Min on dip stick i got about 1100 miles.

I have never seen my oil light come on at all and once when i first got the car it was tapping before i knew it needed toppin up.

Aparantly it's normal so vauxhall say but my old rover never used any and didnt have to top it up until it was due for an oil change lol..

Rovers don't have Vauxhall engines in them, so what's the Rover got to do with anything?

Why in gods name would Vx fit pistons which are too small for the bore? if they did this they would be slapping about like mad, it's not the pistons that control the oil burn anyway its the rings, primarily the bottom ring, the oil scraper one that's like 3 rings in one.

As for the Z18XE engine is very uncommon for that engine to use oil, it's mainly the 1.6 16v engines that are prone to it. Why that would be I don't know, maybe Vx made the piston ring end gap slightly too wide and the oil scraper doesn't scrape as close as it should do or maybe some engines when they were bored were not as tight a tolerance as they should have been but Vx just let them pass.

I've never had to top up my Z18XE oil once in 4 years, in fact I don't check it that often as it never uses any, ashamed to say that but it's a bad habit I've fallen into. Must go and check it now just to be safe, mind you ChippedUk dipped it last week and it must have been ok then or they'd have said.
