    Servicing

    howdy folks.quick questions:
what are the reccomended serving miles for a mk 4 astra?

its just im looking to buy a convertible and i see alot for sale at 25k...30k....40k so basically do the cars need serving around about those miles? i just dont really wanna buy somehting that needs servicing right away.

im looking at 3 cars right now, ones 29k ones 30k and one is 31k... id ask the seller, but since they wanna sell the car they could lie and tell me they dont need serving lol...

    thanks for any help

They reccomend that the cambelt is done about 35-40k. And IIRC this means disconnecting coolant, air-con, etc.... so is a time consuming job and hence costs a few £££.

Plus a lot of peeps like to have a new car every 3 years, and so those mileages would match with that schedule.

Otherwise it's 10-15,000 miles for minors, 30,000 for majors and 80,000 for a full rebuild (should be at the prices Vx charge)

For piece of mind a car should always be serviced once a year at least. with oil changes every 6 months to keep it tip top.

My last service (a 40k) cost just short of £200 @ Vxl, not including cambelt etc

lol, Haynes says 35-40k, Vx says 70-80k

    Personally I'd go with Haynes.

Whoever told you 100k or ten years is a fool!!!

Vxl's manual says 60k I believe but Im sure this was a cockup on their part coz they do in fact recommend 40k on belt driven engines
The 2.2 is chain driven IIRC and so shouldnt need doing till 80-100k, The recommended change on the diesel is about the same, 80k
