    No base in a convertible

Hmmm, just finished installing ma sound system into ma bertone and after the ballache of having to alter shape n size of ma sub box to fit in the car, it sounds shit even after playing with all the settings!! it sounded ace in ma saxo . turns out that due to ma 15"er facing upwards towards a metal roof holder compartment thingy the only good my system is is when i got boot open then it sounds shit-hot. would sound proofin material sort it? anyway i dunno if i can be arsed with all that, i just wanna keep things simple so was thinking maybe some decent components for ma back door cos i got some wicked jvc front door speakers that sound like a little 8" sub. ne suggestions any1?

you sure its because the sub is facing upwards and not just because its a cabriolet? dont know much about ICE but i know that getting good bass in a convert isnt always easy.

mate of mine put took his system out of his saxo not long ago and put it into an escort cabriolet and the difference in the bass was rediculous..only sounded good with the boot open,or the rear seats down.

its all due to air movement..if the subs cannot move the air thats inside the cabin of the car then you get no bass...
im not familiar with the boots of astra convertibles (yet...im in the market for one though) so i cant really offer any tricks or tips.all i can say is you need to find a way of letting the bass 'escape' into the cabin of the car. and i dont think sound proofing will do anything to resolve this issue..its great stuff..but if you cant hear anything now, you'll hear even less if you lock more sound away in the boot

Get some big bass-mids and stick em in the rear 3/4 panels. I cut mine and put 6x9's in there - there is loads of room. I reckon I coulda fitted 7x10's or a sub in there if I was trying!!!!!

The convertiable will have electric window mechs there so I doubt there will be much depth for speakers

My coupe's the same as the sub doesn't impose much at all but when the seats are down its over powering

As has been said the bertones are hard to get decent bass it is more a case of mind over matter! This is always be a pain to answer and no doubt i will be corrected but my understanding is that when the boot i closed the sub pushes against a wall of unmovable air and therefore the movement is restricted, when you open the boot this restriction is lifted allowing the sub to move again. The saxo sounded good because it was a hatch and it is just one open space, the best thing you can do is make the the cabin and the boot as one as possible. It can be done!!!

I found the same problem after moving from my Corsa to the Coupe. With a hatch you have the whole back end to keep the sound where as a boot you only have the rear seats! Did you have 6x9 in your saxo?

this seems a bit obvious..so im probably wrong but couldnt you do this?

i take it,with the armrest and that plastic flap down, theres a hole straight into the boot? is this the same with the convertible?

hm...well that should solve it..as theres nothing stopping the speaker from moving...with that hole letting pressure out into the cabin,it's sort of like porting a bassbox so it really should work..
lol im not looking forward to getting a convertible anymore .
by any chance do you speak german? lol.its just theres this site
