    timing belt on a remaped car

    away to book my car in for new timming belt but do i need to say its been maped as i thought the timing was changed when they was maped,maybe me being dunb again but thought i better check first,

    nope but tell them not to touch the ecu as people have had the map wiped off

    sorry, got a little mixed up there, its going in for a mot and its grtting a service at the same time,,,,,,,,

    still a bit hung over, thats my ecuse anyway

    well if your going to vxl to have it done they can and have done in the past updated the software on the ecu therefore deleting the map on it as part of the service

    Hi,

    I think I know what you are trying to ask...

    If your car has been re-mapped they MAY have altered the ignition timing. Basically they can alter the piont in the engine cycle at which the spark is fired. This would be done electronically and therefore no need to touch anything involving the cam belt.

    Cam timing refers to the relation of one or both of your camshafts to the crankshaft and is normally adjusted by vernier pulleys etc.

    They are both completely different so don't worry.

    Your map can be overwritten by Vauxhall if a software update is needed, just ask them to inform you before any ecu programming is carried out be it retail or warranty to give you a chance to say no
