    Exclamation GSI newbie

Hi, i have just bought a 53 plate Astra GSI, when driving it at speeds above 70mph the steering wheel is shuddering, i have had all the wheels tracked and balanced and had the rears changed to the front which did not make any difference so i had them changed back. It did not do it when i test drove it, and the only change to the car from me test driving it to picking it up is that the garage put me a new tyre on the front passenger side as it had a tear on the wall, it is a rare yokahama so Kwik Fit tell me, so not sure if this could be the problem.
Anyone else had this problem with their GSI?
Any Thoughts or suggestions greatfully recieved

    Cheers

    Dave

I would assume that you would of have a warranty from the garage that you bought it from? If so mate i would take it back and let them see if they can find the problem

    Oh and welcome to AS

Bought it from a Citroen garage near Manchester so its a good 3 hour drive from where i live, i took it to Vauxhall on Friday for something else and asked them to check it for me, they just said they could feel the shuddering but it was not mechanical and advised me to get it balanced, which i have, but it has not altered it. It has 3 Dunlop sport 9000 tyres and one Yokahama parada on the front passenger side. Do you think it could be the tyre causing the problem?

It's more likely the balancing that's the problem - take it back and get them to do it again, and again.

    Welcome to Astrasport BTW

Parada Spec2's have a different running surface to the dunlops but cant see it causing a problem, although why someone would put £100 worth of tyre on one corner and leave the rest i have no idea... if your gonna shell that much out on one tyre you may aswell buy the four!!

Have you made sure the Tyre sizes are all the same?? i got a little bit of feedback from the tyres on my old corsa at higher speeds when i was runnin a 205/45 on the passenger side and a 195/45 on the drivers (205 was on just to get me home!!!) but i wouldnt say it was a huge problem it was more like running over painted lines kinda feel through the steering wheel, faint but noticeable

hi bud i would say that was your problem for sure get your self 2 matching tyres with simular tred and get them fitted to the front wheels . probably best 2 get yourself another yoko i suppose.then take them somewhere better than kwik fit 2 get them balanced.

Had it balanced last week and it balanced perfect although it was 200 grams out before they balanced it! Had it done again today and it was 25 grams out. Not sure why it had changed in a week.

well if your roads are anything like mine i could quite belive that. i would def get matching tyres. might be a really stupid question but is the rotation correct on all ur tyres? i have seen many a dumb tyre fitter not thinking about where the wheel needs to go and just mount the tyre any old way
