Thumbs Up I'm looking to buy a turbo!!! Help...

I've just checked the insurance and got quotes for £650 on a 2.0 16v Turbo 2001 model!!! Been driving 4 years.

Now i've got to find one .

What problems should I look out for and which model should I get?

    Looking to spend £5-£6k.

That kind of money will buy you a nice example of a coupe turbo, or maybe a slightly shabbier SRi-T.

As above check for the turbo going - signs of smoke and oil etc. From what I've heard they commonly go around the 60k mark.

How much will a turbo set me back if I bought a dud?

I think i'll spend a little more for a lower mileage!

what happend to buying a flowtec manifold for the z18xe?
you can forget about good mpg when you have got a turbo mate and running costs are more expensive but if you want power its the way to go ,
you could easly get 170-180bhp from the z18xe still with good mpg and cheep insurance. my mpg is better now with the flowtec then what it was before!

Well, i don't know much about the turbos and always wanted to learn. Thought it was always a pipe dream.

I'll look at both options. Just worried that spending all the money on the 1.8 would be a waste. A standard turbo is easier to insure (more companies will quote) than a modded 1.8 and they've got all the kit.

What sort of MPG do you guys think the turbo pumps out?

    Any other general running costs?
