Talking Has anyone used a fully synthetic oil?

I've given my astra to my brother and he was thinking of doing a oil change but using Mobil 1 fully synthetic instead of the normal 10 40 semi. Has anyone else used fully before in their astra.

    Thanks
    ps its the X20XEV engine

I used to use it my Mk3 (x20xev) all the time, and never had a problem.

It's not worth the extra cost IMO

I use Mobil 1 fully synth 0w40 in my 888 ... runs beautiful.

Personally, I think running a car on Semi synth for the first 20,000 miles is good as apparently it runs the car in better, then fully synth there after.

I'v noticed that Mobil 1 only comes in 4l and 1l bottles. Doesn't the astra use like 4.5-5l of oil?

    Thanks

Just use Vauxhall own fully synthetic, I use it on my turbo and it runs fine plus its a very reasonable price. I pay £17 for 5 litres with trade club disco.
Been told its Shell Helix oil by a few people but not sure if thats true.

Been using mobil1 for years and now use it in my zaf gsi. Obviously its very thin so it gets round the engine nice and quick to start lubricating ASAP, remember, most engine wear occurs within a couple minutes of startup and this extra quick lubrication makes it well worth the money if you love your engine.
Another point worth considering, using thin oil will highlight many bore/ring/seal/gasket (etc, etc) wear and potential failiures can be spotted before its too late. If your engine starts smoking drain the thin oil and refill with the standard grade oil, chances are the smoking will stop, giving you time to trace and rectify the problem.

I spoke to Courtenay the other day and they said the vauxhall 5w30 was a little fin for the Z20LET and that they use a Fully Synthetic 10w40 but cant remember the name, they said it cost £40
