    Angry steering lock

    Hey guys i came out of the gym whent to my car unlocked it fine, whent to turn it over and the steering lock wont disengage so i can start the car, i tried various times and nothing so iv had to leave it in the car park and walk home, any ideas how to solve this would be greatly appreciated

    short of breaking the lock i dont no what to do :/

    Had this problem with a Mk 4. If you can Jack the front wheels off the ground (only enough to clear the road) and pull hard on the steering wheel as you turn the ignition it should free up. I spent an hour trying it while it was sitting on the road, and a Guy in the AA told me (on the phone) to lift the wheels up. Worth a shot????

    Failing that, go back into the gym, pump some iron, and break the lock! (unless of course somebody else has a suggestion!!!!!!!!!!)

    Sounds like your gonna have to dismantle the steering columb and break the lock. My astra sometimes has a really tight steering lock and I have to pull the wheel in one direction with quite a lot of force whilst turning the key for it to unlock.

    if you don't feel like dismantling your steering coloumb then I can suggest another way but you'll need a new lock after

    if i break the lock the car will still be ok to drive and so on ill just need to replace the lock at some point ?

    Theres a really simple way to remove steering lock without breaking it, i dont know if it should be posted on open forum, if you still need to get it off pm me and ill send you the info...

    shud just be able to wiggle it in either direction quick and with force while turning key and shud come off

    My dad sorted it for me, he grew up in north london so need i say more :P all sorted and without the need for a new steering lock ty for all the advice tho guys

    On a lighter note me and a friend are looking to move up in engine sizes for our astras.

    iv got a 1.6 sxi m he has some old mk3 whichi s near death. we are both after 2.0 sri or 2.2 t sri if anyone knows of any decent ones knocking about drop me a pm cheers
