How to wire an amp up?

    Hi there,

What's involved in installing a 4 channel amp in the boot and using it to power a sub and the front speakers?

I've got an MK4 and have already replaced all the door speakers. I don't really have a clue how to wire an amp & sub in the boot though!

If anyone could explain in simple terms how to do this or point me in the direction of another article I'd be really grateful.

power from batery to amp + terminal
wire from amp to ground GRD
wire from head unit to amp remote lead RMT/REM
two sets of RCAs on for sub and one for fronts
fronts L+=left on terminal marked plus outher follow same pattern
sub you should bridge the two remaining channels and its usualy marked on the amp usualy a + from one channel to the - on the other channel
hope that helps if you want more details il help where possible

    Thanks for the overview autoSRI.

So how do you actually go about running power and audio cables to the boot? Where do you hide those cables? Sorry if these are newbie questions but this is all new to me!!!

First problem you may encounter is getting the power wire from the battery through the firewall (some use a grommet at drivers side - other drill a hole behind glovebox)...

The rest is routing the cables, under sill covers, under carpet etc.

If you look on the back of any amplifier wiring kit - you'll see the schematic of where to connect things.

Finally - it's a good idea to keep the power cable away from speaker cable, because that can cause interference.
