    Timing Chain Question 2.2 Coupe

A mate's chain just snapped on his Vectra Sri causing 3k worth of damage. Is this common. My coupe has done 70k so is worth changing the chain to be safe. Can it be checked by a garage easy enough?

    Any thoughts please.

It depends on the age, and service history really - early engines were fitted with insufficient oil lubrication on the chain, and were prone to snapping. VX modified these asthey came in for servicing, so most should have been captured, assuming they have a full dealer service history. howwever with most thingssome do slip the net.

Later engines (March 2002) were fitted with the modified parts at the factory, so as long as the oil is changed on a regular basis, they should be OK
