Thinking of leaving the astra and going VAG diesel...

time has come for me to make some decisions...

i love astras and modding them but its costing me too much...modding is expensive, insurance is going up, roadtax is due, 40quid on petrol a week...

thinking of turning to a diesel car for now...budget being around 3-4k with 1k left for insurance (will be 21 soon enough), and 250quid for a remap (NO other mods!)...

not really a fan of astra diesels but quite like the idea of a nicely mappable VAG TDi...thinking of being different and going for a Bora...what are peoples thougths on these? golfs/a3s better?

are all the VAG 1.9TDi engines the same unit with different maps? how mappable are the 100bhp, 110bhp, 115bhp, 130bhp and 150bhp engines?

kinda sad having to make this decision...on the positive side there will be looaaaddddsss of 2nd hand bits for you guys and i will be back!! when i get a turbo

Get a SEAT Leon Tdi, same engines, look smarter, much sharper to drive and more affordable with the same dash as the Audi A3.

    Tdi engines range; 90/110/130/150 BHP

The variable vane mechanism in the turbo can be prone to failing, best way to avoid that it to give a bit of welly EVERYTIME you drive it (but not continuosly!)

counted it all up...nearly 1800-2000pounds of stuff in second hand value

quite like bora's...or maybe i only like euro style modded ones!

...liked the interior of the Golf GTI with recaros and blue lights in the dash...just hope the bora is similar...if the 100bhp version can be mapped to like 140-150 that would be iceing on the cake

Don't think the 100 TDi can reach 140bhp with just a map.

if you want to mod it its best to start with a 130bhp on them mate as they are not the same as the 110bhp's
the 150 bhp tdi has a diff turbo to the 130bhp
also I have seen a few 150bhp bora's for about 4k with recaro leather

I personally think for £3-4k you will be getting an older car with higher mileage than your current cars. The 90/110 are nothing to rave on about. If you are going to get one 130/150 is the way forward really in terms of performance. With terms of tuning they all respond well to the chip/remap. Good luck I do think VAG diesels are way overated though... just my opinion
    .. 2.0 Dti 16v ..
    .. With a few mods ..

see a good 130bhp one will set you back around the 8k mark for a nice low mile one with a good spec
also look at a vectra 1.9cdti 150bhp a very good lump in that

The Tdi aint exactly the most refined derv engine around but it is quite tractable.
Some of the older ones can sound pretty damn rough tbh, my mums ibiza 110Tdi has only done about 65k and it sounds rough as hell even though its been well maintained.
