What do you mean? Sorry Im confused ...

The length of the cable doesnt matter, I assume your running it from the Mobo to the HDD and then onto the DVD drive? some cables are short and it means u have to put the DVD drive in the bottom slot whereas others are longer and it can be in the conventional top slot on the case.

il have another go the idea is to fit the mobo in the boot of my car with powersupply ect and fit the DVD and HDD in the glove box so the IDE cable would be about 4.5m long and i wasnt sure if it would work corectly

    Okay, this is interesting.

Why don't you mount the motherboard in the glovebox, too? Better still, rip apart a complete shuttle pc and rebuild it into your glovebox.

While there's no real limits as to the length of an ide cable, running it through a car at that length will inevitably cause problems. If you have no other way of doing it, you might want to include some form of sheilding for the cable.

Another option would be USB drives... that's a lot easier.

its actualy not a PC its an xbox but iv bin told there the same thing and ive already gotv a four channel amp in the glove box so its a bit tight

im liking the idea of screened cable that could stop alot of interfearance
and does it make any differace if i keep the hard drive in the boot aswell less cable to run that way

As long as you have all the cables secured in position and the various parts insulated as much as poss from vibration, you shouldn't have a problem.

I'd seriously consider having the xbox sitting in the glovebox and relocate the amp to the boot. Makes a lot more sense instead of having to figure out a way of ripping apart the xbox and rerouting everything. Moving the amp would be a lot less hassle than basically rebuilding an xbox

Specification suggests maximum cable length is 1m

in reality you can have em 3m if you can find a cable supplier

your only problem is look at the power cable for the DVD .............. its not a standard one
