In 40 years time, which Mk of Astra will be remembered?

When all remaining Astras are in the hands of classic enthusiasts, which mk will be remembered as the best? The mk1 GTE (Astra D) was certainly a trendsetter but my money's on the mk4 (Astra G) - better built than previous models, well equipped and the styling will stand the test of time well.

Mk 2 IMHO. It was quite a special car when it came out and the GTE stayed in production for a very long time. It also wipped the floor with the opposition and had many a good review written about it. It's styling was also quite unique.......

    Well, I reckon the icons....

    Mk2 GTE ...
    Mk5 VXR ...

I dont think the mk1 gte is good enough to remember
mk3 GSI was not special enough...nor the Mk4 GSI,
I think the name GSI is more forgettable....
    Oh...no SRi's either...

    Coupes wont be remembered ...

    Just my opinion of course..

cant really think of any that will be too special, just older the more special id guess,
the VXR i dont think is anything more speical than the mk4 GSi, just the name VXR now is special, but after every model has one, and the VXR styling is avalable to so many other models it will soon lose its exclusivity the same as the GSi means nothing anymore really,
to people "in the know" i guess the 888's and other ltd editions would be speical,

The mk5 VXR wont be special, why? cos its just another GSI/GTE with a new badge.

The mk1 GTE cos it was the first Astra Hot Hatch

Mk2 GTE and the Mk4 SRI-T. Two real fast Vauxhalls that will stay classics.

boy ... that me laugh !
So much more anticipation, so much more press interest !!!!

Although it's sometimes special editions that dont get shouted about when they come out that are remembered...(such as Champion mk2)
So..suppose 888 coops should be remembered then

Maybe the Mk5 888, as the first limted Ed race spec Diesel.

But without a doubt the Mk2 GTE will be remembered, afterall it was the car that changed the face of Vauxhall hot hatch.
