    Help Needed - Paper Clip Test

    Hi all, i have a mk4 astra 1.8 sport and recently the engine management light has come on, its idling poor, generally running crap, lost a lot of power, jerks in all gears on acceleration and sounds pretty awful.... now ive cleaned the EGR valve, but it still hasnt cured it, so i want to do a paper clip test if its possible?

    could anyone give me a link to the test step by step guide please? its a T reg, 1.8 16v sport.

    thanks

    should work on your 99, I think the change happened in late 2000 with X onwards (introduction of Z18 engine??) from then on the paperclip doesn't work.

    I've posted a very comprehensive list of codes in the past so if you find your one isnt on the topbuzz site try searching on here.

    just done the test and got the following :

    * = flash - = pause 10 = 0 (KEY)

    *-****-**********-*****-**********-****-***-**********-*-***-**********

    so that was 1 flash, 4 flashes, 10 flashes, 5 flashes, 10 flashes, 4 flashes, 10 flashes, 3 flashes, 10 flashes , 1 flash, 3 flashes, 10 flashes

    so only codes i got from that were:

    1405 - EGR valve
    0130 - HEGO (heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor)

    so - ive already cleaned the EGR valve which clearly hasnt hepled, so ill have to look for a cheap one on the bay, god knows what a HEGO sensor does, also did check on the runaround corsa and that needs a crank sensor ... lovely !!! lol

    cheers for the help all of you

    The HEGO is the oxygen senser infront of the cat - commonly called a lambda
