    unsure what to get

hi guys, im looking at a mk4 astra but im unsure which to get. i could have 1.6 petrol, 1.8 petrol or a 2.0dti (too young for the 2.0 petrol)

i quite like the idea of diesel as its cheaper insurance and more economic but what engine mods can i do if any in comparison with the petrol mk4's?

go for the 1.8 petrol if u can afford it. 123BHP standard - do the usual mods and remap the ECU and push power to 150BHP.

2.0DTi is a good alternative but together with the usual mods and remap will see it pushing 130bhp (100 as standard). Personally I think the 1.8 would be the best introduction in to Astra's - plenty of performance/styling mods available it all just comes down to personal preference and above all ....money!

If the 1.6 is more suitable financially then this too is a good little engine - 98BHP standard (presuming u mean the 16v 1.6) but remap and mods to this will usually only take it to about 110BHP max. Id go for the 1.8 if funds allow.

    Hope this helps!

If you wanna stay insurance friendly a 1.8 is only group 7. If you go for the 1.6 you'll probably kick yourself a few months down the line and wish you had got the 1.8. (I just kick myself and wish I had the turbo!)

Definitely the 1,8 or the 2.0DTI. I do 30 miles a day and at present im probably only putting in £25 worth of diesel every 2 weeks. Got a good bit of poke too, i always thought diesels were really boring (ok theyre hardely mega exciting) but the torque is always fun!
