oil light on all the time

my uncle and aunt are about to buy a vreg asrag g 1.4 im assuming it will be 8v dont know much else about it, all i know is the oil light is on constantly, whats the likley cause and whats the way to fix. could it be as simple as a a sensor, if so which one? oil pump? engine management? any help would be good, they not bought the car yet but obviously if its likley to be a serious fault and costly then they will need to be advised against it.
    thanks in advance

It could just be the oil pressure switch or the wire to it being shorted onto the engine block

I'm sure if it was more terminal like the oil pump the engine would rattle like a *******

yes matt its the first thing that was checked lol, its not rattling or sounding rough which made me think it could be the oil sensor, or possibly low pressure

    Astra G 1.4 are all 16v.

I wouldn't even consider buying any car with a constant oil or engine management light on. If it's being sold in that condition, ask yourself "why"?

If it's simple, why hasn't the seller fixed it?

All 1.4 G's are 16v mate but Id avoid any car with the EML light or oil light constantly on unless its a right bargain. Id probably walk away, yer bound to find an example without the issues...

It could be a bargaining point to get a seriously cheap car though.

Have a look under the car (see if they will let you take it to a garage with a ramp) and see if the wire is off the pressure sender. Someone will know on here where it is...

If thats the only problem, you could barter them down saying it probably needs a new oil pump etc?

If all is well with the wire, it might only be the sender is broken. Not a huge job and could still potentially be a cheap fix.

The risk is yours though, if its serious then it could become costly.

If the wire was off the sender the light would never come on
