    engine differences

    when was the quicker 1.8 engine introduced was it a 52 plate or an 02 plate thanx ppl

    it was around september 2000, so x plate (thats when it went to 123bhp from 118bhp)

    there is no real difference between the engines, both the same speeds.

    I always thought it was on the 51 plates mate. You can tell by the engine cover, if its all silver its the 123bhp lump, if its silver and black its the 115

    Z18XE (123bhp) introduced from Aug 2000 (build date). It also had longer service intervals, 20k, than the previous X18XE1 (113bhp) - 10k

    X reg 1.8s are a mixture of old stock 113bhp and new build 123bhp.

    All very annoying as mine was built in Mar 2000.

    Having owned a few astras with both the engine there is no difference.I would even say the X18XE1 feels quicker than the Z18XE, may be the pre-cat has something to do with it.

    Doesnt Always Work Mate ive got an all black cover and mines a Z18XE

    Z18XE, as Rupert's Thingumy says can in June 2000 for August 2000 sale, along with the Z16SE which replaced the X16SZR.
