    Handheld/Portable Recorders?

I'm looking for something like a little handheld digital recorder - kinda like a dicaphone. But it has to be fairly good with loud noises - like music for example. I know i could get a dictaphone but i'd need to know it had a pretty good mic on it.

I don't really know if there is such a device, or what exactly to look for. Can anyone help?

are u on about machines with a built in speaker or as above minidisc is a good idea. Obviously if it doesnt have to have a speaker then there's quite a lot to choose from further up the price range. Portable media device's or something along them lines

I was thinking about a minidisc, but surely the microphone on them wouldnt be up to much - correct me if i'm wrong!

Doesn't really need to have a speaker altho it would be handy to hear back what i had just recorded

Why do you need one that can record loud noises?

Ah, well i'm looking for something that can record me & my mates playing guitar, bass etc.

It couldnt be one that would go straight into a PC as we don't always play somewhere there's a pc.

Also, like i said above it doesnt need to be perfect just enough to hear it clearly enough

DAT would be your best bet for a protable set, but it was discontinued last december, in favour fo HD recorders (another great Sony invention that captured the world). It's still widley used in the media tho

You might be able to pick up a decent cheap second hand set tho
