    QUERY Help needed

As a few of you may know I'm looking to buy an astra g 1.8 sport. I went to look at one the other day, its got 87k on the clock which i dont think is bad for a mainland car. It does have a few niggly bits that will need repairing but nothing major. The only query I have is when I turned the ignition to start her up, there is an icon that lights up, its in the shape of an engine with what looks like a flash of lightning going through it ( if it makes sense??) once she turned over the light went out I was just wondering what it was? My citreon has got one that does the same, I think the citreons one is something to do with the fuel injection but cant be sure. Any help would be much appreciated as I'm on the verge of selling my car now and if alls well will be getting the astra within the next few days.

Dont worry its just a self check of the engine management system.

The following is taken from the users manual:

Engine Electronics: Lights up when ignition is switched on. Goes out after engine is started. If it lights up during driving, a fault has occurred. Engine may enter limp mode (emergency running mode) and must be taken to a Vauxhall specialist asap. If it lights up briefly and goes out again this is of no significance.
If however, it flashes when the ignition is on, there is a fault in the electronic immobiliser system and therefore as a result the engine can not be started.

    Hope this helps.

As for the car u looked at - 87k will be ok as long as the cam belt has been changed at circa 80k. If not then walk away and find one that has or it'll cost u a good £250 to replace....unless u DIY it.
