    Ignition Sense

    Hey all,

I need to find out when the ignition is turned on (including when the key is inserted turned to position 1 and then back off but the key is left in).

Now my new car kit has a feature that will only apply power to the main control unit and the handset if the ignition is turned on (providing the ignition sense cable is attached).

At present, my head unit has this feature and doesn't require any special requirements, would it be possible or safe to power my car kit from the headunit loom rather then attach a wire to the ignition barrel.

Looking at the haynes, it shouldn't be that hard to add it to the ignition barrel but I am sure this is only looking for a live feed that the ignition creates?

    Any ideas?

Car kit is the HCA-60 (Sony Ericsson)

I just usually run mine from the head units power loom as its also easier for the mute cable as well plus if its an after market one it would have an adaptor loom so your not cutting in to the cars wiring.

yeah, the car kit comes with an ISO block to fit to the head unit for playing music and phone calls thru the head unit, although I wasn't to sure whether this actually powers the car kit.

It's turned up according to the mrs, so I will look when I get home.

    Thanks
