FAO Anyone who has a precat replacement

Got mine done and it makes a huge difference. Power is noticably increased, but so is the noise.

Sounds a strange thing to say, but the exhaust sounds like its blowing when cold but not as noticable when hot.

Is this normal? Will it sort itself out when the precat gets a bit coked up? Or is it most likely actually blowing?

Its a 2001 coupe which had the all-in-one precat/cat and the chap cut the precat off, welded on a flange and attached the precat.

Just been out to investigate properly.

99% sure it is blowing. There is a lot of smoke which i thought was oil dripping on the exhaust, but its fumes from the exhaust. Completely different smell.

The oil leak is just incidental I think.

Well, that means another 160 mile round trip to get it fixed.

Will I be losing power through a blowing exhaust?

I though the same when i had my precat and sport cat done but apparently its just the exhaust gases spining... which is norm for blueflame ones.

If you can see smoke then that must show it isnt sealed.... just take to a garage and ask them to check

I will call the exhaust place that did it forst and see what he says. I dont actually mind going back to get it sorted. Will get a tank of optimax for the sme price as I pay for 95 U/L!!

Will I be losing a lot of power through the blow?

Can you tell where it's blowing from?

The 2 places are likely to be either...

    1. Where the flange is fixed into the turbo (we had to re tighten this on GSI Butch's car)

    2. Where the precat meets the main cat. They should have put a gasket on here - it should tighten up lovely though.

It's probably hard to tell where from though. Good luck finding it - it might lose you a bit of power, but it shouldn't do any long term damage.

except kill me with the fumes inside the car!!!

no idea, but sounds like its the turbo to precat. going to call and see what he says. I'll bet he never put a new gasket on there.

I will find the part number for the gasket and stick it on anyway I think.

    Just annoying really.
