Well, think I found that elusive 'hot oil' smell

I have had some various changes done to the car recently. New turbo fitted by vxl, new precat fitted today and vectra c intake with 2.2 airbox mod.

Thought the burnt oil smell was coming from the filter breather, but had a wee run out in the car there and noticed a few drops of oil under the car (was raining) so went for the run, came back and had a look and smell under the bonnet.

There seems to be a bit of smoke coming from the turbo. Going to have a better look tomorrow in daylight and when the engine is cold.

I am hoping it could just be an oil feed or return loose or something simple.

I did notice that the air intake from the AFM into the turbo was not as tight as it could/should be. But I doubt this would cause any problems? Would it?

std turbo. not had the bill yet, but its going to be bigger than it should.

They had the car in bits wondering why it was creating too much boost pressure.

I think he said it was 2 1/2 hours for the turbo but I have no idea how long fixing the boost pressure problem. (Actuator!!!)

I think its normal (well, within tolerence) for oil to be in breathers.

No, they are slow at sending!! Aparently, its quite easy and could do it yourself in about 4-6 hours, but I dont have the space to do it so paid the garage.

glad I still have the old turbo here to get some idea of where the problem could be.

i probably could attempt it vut would risk it, id get it done at vaux to knoe it was done right (i wouldnt pay the full price anyway)

if you got your turbo fitted at vaux take it to them to find the prob, they can fix it for you if its there fault,

next chance I am going to get is possibly next monday!!

I will have a look tomorrow. Found some places on the old turbo it could be so will check that out tomorrow.

Looking at it, it seems rather more straight forward than I initially thought.

    Looks like (un-professional eye BTW!!)

    Heat shield off
    Undo exhaust bracket
    unbolt oil feed and return
unbolt turbo, swap over anything that needs it
    reversal of above.

if you have some axle stands and a good socket set, it would be reasonably easy I think.

Which reminds me, I must go get some axle stands....

I would hope not!! But knowing vxl!!

And knowing my luck with these things, I will write a letter to say i am not paying for their stupidity (worded better though!!), they wont reply, I will write again, they wont reply again and I will get a CCJ!

    Worth trying though.
