£1500 to spend on a sxi mk4 - any ideas?

    Hi all,

Finally decided to spend a few quid sortin out the mk4 1.6 sxi. Got about a £1500 budget. Ide like to concentrait on performance mods rather than cosmetics and ice. - done all that with a different car before!
My thoughts were - totally stripped interior, alloys, suspension, roll cage, bucket seats and a few choice engine mods - lots with little money i know but i'll be doing nearly all the work myself.
Any ideas of what would work well for the money would be great - anything considered in the quest for a nippier motor!

If it's purely performance you want.... your driving the wrong car really. I would sell up and something quicker to start with.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 1.6 16v and would buy another one tomorrow, but not if I was just after performance. They are tunable but you have to throw a lot of money at them for little gain.

stripping the interior should give u better acceleration but it would probably be noisier, i reckon your going down the right route altho i wouldnt bother with a rol cage as its not exacly a performance option, its more safety. you wont have much money left from wheels suspension and seats, possibly enough for a decent exhaust manifold and exhaust and a remap from wilko
Fitted options: Folding mirrors, cruise control, dual tone horn, remap.
    Next: Bluetooth

suspension, wheels, exhaust, panel filter and re-map from chipped uk in bromsgrove. will transform the drivabilty of the car totaly, any money left in the pot then I would be down for strut brace, rear anti roll bar, 308m brakes, and rear disks

Sounds along the lines i would like to go. Would quite like to cage it tho as i love doing track days! Since taking quite alot of the weight out its totally trasformed the handling - and its what its like in the corners that matters more to me than the straight bits.
p.s got the intake and re-map sorted already

Sell up I had exact same car you did x16xe sxi mk4 on an X plate.
Spent some on it including suspension, bodykit, exhaust, chip, etc. No interior mods to engine and wasn't really that much different gained roughly another 10bhp.
So I sold it when insurance was up and got the let.
Like said above if it's performance your after you have the wrong car
Sell up or stick the 2 litre in!...

You can pick up an x20xe with decent mileage for a few hundred quid then you have the other grand to uprate brakes/suspension etc.
