'gearbox change' do u mean changing the transmission oil or changing the actual transmission itself?

Nope, full gearbox swap. Welded the diff on my current F17, so the box is coming out.

Support, the engine, drop the subframe, then unbolt the gearbox.

You'll have to disconnect the hydraulics, and bleed them after refitting.

what extra tools am i going to need to do the job (bar the normal spanners, screwdrivers, etc) and whats involved ibn bleeding the hydraulics, is it the same as bleeding the brakes.

Also the haynes manual says i need to remove the manifold, cat and downpipe as well as drain the coolant. Is this really nesscery, can't the the exhaust getting in the way of the gearbox as it runs under the sump.

You'll obviously need to remove the downpipe, as it goes under the subframe, but the manifold doesn't need removing.

    Cheers for the info Mark.

Now i'm a little stuck on the subframe, here's what i've done so far...

Got the long driveshaft out without too much bother

First problem: can't seem to shift the short driveshaft, having bugger all room doesn't help

Now the next item on the list is the subframe, just need general help really, the hanzee manual just goes on and on. If anybody to try a simplfy what is involved in removing the frame so i can get on with removing this bloody gearbox. lol

The car is a 1.8 16v Astra G with abs and power steering, but no air con.

    Cheers in advance.
