    Astra G - central underfloor airdam ??

    We have 2 Astra Gs, a '99 1.6 16v LS hatch and a '00 1.8 CDX saloon.

The 1.6 has 2 plastic strips, about 5cm x 50cm, attached vertically to the underside just in front of the fuel tank. The 1.8 has no such strips. I've seen one or two Astras with them but mostly without.

    What are they for?

Would the 1.6 be better without them?

Would the 1.8 be better with them?

    I'm just baffled, please help!

I've no idea what they are for by my (2002) 2.2 3dr has them.

I assume they were something to do with undercar airflow - as to what tho

Can anyone with EPC define which models are fitted with these floorpan strips?

Maybe they're only fitted to hatch variants and not saloon/coupe/convertible.

My DTi has them, as did my 2000 Club 1.6 hatch. My housemate's 2001 LS 1.6 hatch doesn't.

My 2003 Coupe doesnt have them. Think its like the appendix, the car could no doubt live happily without them.

My 2001 1.8 SRi has the strips. I had to replace one as if was hanging off and was rubbing on the ground at slow speeds. Eventually found the part on the computer at the Vauxhall dealer. I think it was called a 'spoiler'. I asked what it was for and they said sometimes they fit these kind of items to stop areas of turbulent air causing vibration or strange noises! Don't know why they would fit them to some cars and not others. Guess maybe they fitted them at a particular point in time rather than on a particular model!
