A/C Soaking up all the power

    Hi,

My A/C is sooking up all my silly little 1.6 8v's power, it struggles to get moving on a hill with the A/C on, even with my foot to the floor it still judders..... needless to say i'm quite puzzled.

There no problem with the A/C off.

    Does anyone have any idea's?

    Thanks

Aircon can use 5-10hp when you include the power needed to run the fans and the compressor. With a 1.6 8v that leaves you with about 30hp for actually moving the car.

take into account the 35c air that your car is breathing as well.

i'd say its normal. just change down a few gears

Air-con has NO effect on full throttle power! The air-con on all Vauxhalls is electronically switched off temporarily at full throttle.Air-con will increase your fuel consumption very slightly at part throttle as you need to put your foot down a little further to make the desired progress.Petrolhead168 - your problem is the 1.6 8v, it only has 74bhp, which is peanuts for a car weighing well over a tonne - in fact an Astra mk4 1.6 8v weighs more than my old Cavalier mk2 SRi.
