Hi everyone. I just joined the Astra club and bought a Gsi mk4 turbo.
I've had it remapped at Courtneys to 233.5bhp/258 IB/ft. Very impressed with this!
I already thought it was quick, but now its got quicker! I've done some acceleration times and compared them with a write-up from a VXR.
It seems to be a tad quicker than a standard VXR now, in a straight line anyway!
0-60 6.3 secs (best)
0-100 15.0 secs (best)
30-70 thru gears 5.3 (Av.result)
50-70 4th gear 4.2 (Av.result)
0-60 + 0-100 times are pigs to do, so easy to **** them up! Lots of wheel spin in 1st looses time. The car isn't over good at getting the power down off the line, but lets face it, in the real world not much of a problem.
I reckon these cars are well under-rated, great brakes, great speed, good equipment, great looks + cheap to buy/run/insure/fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Handling could be a bit sharper, but on our crap roads its not over bad being a bit softer.
I've got a pal with a Focus RS (standard), we went for a back road blast, agreed he go first to see if the Gsi could keep with it!
Anyway, kid you not, it was all over the RS like a rash!! ,notably quicker at accelerating and I could see his car bouncing all over the place, while my "soft" Gsi behaved perfectly!! When we pulled up, he admitted he couldn't remotely shake me off, but put it all down to the extra power I've just gained & poor rear tyre treads!!
Anyway, whatever!! Think this car is great. Especially for the price.
