    Mk4 Astra 1.6 questions

I believe in the Mk4 Astra there are two engines available?

    Z16XE
    Z16XEP

    1) Which one is better out of the two?

    2) Whats the power output of the two?

    3) Which is the newer engine?

    4) Which year of car has which engine?

    Cheers all

Take a look at this link
    http://www.m1gst.com/vb/showthread.p...hlight=program

It shows you all the engine codes that are used inside the UK. The only ones that may be missing is special makes such a I for Irmscher.
    Hope this helps

Euro 4 - 1.6L 9.5 to 10:1 compression ratio multi point injection engine.

    Z16XE 74kW 100HP 6000RPM

    Cheers mate

From that thread, its says Z16XE 74kW 100HP 6000RPM. On the Regal website, they can do a turbo conversion and up the power to 210bhp. Is this possible??

    From Regal website

    -Astra G/Vectra B/Vectra C/Zafira X16XE(L)-Z16XE 210 Bhp

    -Astra G/Astra H Z16XEP 210 Bhp

If its on there website then it must be possible. Personally I look at it this way. Your MORE than doubling the cars output. Things are gonna need replacing sooner if not uprated to take the extra punishment. What mods have you at the mo and what you looking for?

With the money you'd end up spending on a 1.6 would it not be cheaper to get yourself a high mileage coupe turbo? Or at least a 2.0L car???
1.6's seem to run out of grunt due to the engine so turbo would be good, but I don't think the turbo would suit the gear box at all imo. If I was gonna go tubro I'd look to change the gear box to. Just don't waste your money on a 1.6. I'd much rather spend the money on a higher milage but bigger engined car.

    I agree with you mate

At the moment, I am just working out what options I have. A turbo 1.6 was a thought as it would be different. I have to admit though, I did not think about the gearbox and stuff, just the conversion itself. Thinking about it now, it may not be such a good idea after all.

Gotta be honest mate turbo would be one of the last mods on my todo list if I really had 10k rotting away in a cupboard somewhere. Theres plenty of stuff I'd do first just to get ready for turbo.... Uprated drive shafts, gearbox, fast road cams, uprated pistons, bottom end, exhaust system, Diblas air intake system, uprated brakes, drums to disk conversion, remap. Easy way of loosing £5k+ Then I'd be thinking about a turbo.
    £5K + Turbo £4k = £9k Thats the going prices for an SRI-T or Z20LET coupe.
Its because of the above I recommend anyone with a 1.6 to sell the car as a first mod. lol

Sorry for putting you off. (personnally I think a 1.8 with £4-5k to spend on it is a much more tunable engine than the 1.6)
    All the best
