    How to open MFD

    Hi,

How do you open the Basic MFD, i want to change the led's in it but i can't get the damn thing open, i've looked at the how to for the orange diffuser but it show's you how to open a pre 2001 model and mine's is made in 2002.

I've released all visible clip's but it seem's to be held in the center by something but i can't figure it out, plus i don't want to break it.

    Thanks

You don't need to take it apart to change the LEDs, once you've unscrewed it from the centre console, you can get to the bulbs from behind. They turn 90 degrees and pull out. There's 2 of em.

I'd presume he'd need to take it apart if its from the latter models that dont take too kindly to LEDs so would need the diffuser changed for an earlier model prior to fitting LEDs as per the normal way....I may be mistaken though...

Jace: I was gonna reply with the same as ur reply earlier but thought this was too obvious!

Why did i not see that......lol

Is it possible to change the bulb's to LED's?

    How do you do that?

Should i just break the bulb and solder an LED in it's place or what?

    Thanks

You can get plug and play LEDs that will directly replace them, can get them from Kirsty on here, or other places too. If you do go for LEDs, sand off the ends slightly otherwise you will have bright spots in the display.

well the bulbs just twist fit into the rear of the unit - the LEDs just fit in place of the OE bulbs.... Obviously if u have the orange diff. in place then the light output of the LEDs wont be that impressive. IF u dont know which diffuser u have - then just fit some LEDs and see what the result is like. If its not that good then follow the how to and replace the orange diff. for a clear one
