Exclamation DO NOT BUY TomTom 510 710 910

Right, firstly bought a Tomtom 510 the other day as some will remember

In 2 weeks I have had 3 units:
1st, poor charging due to useless connection between unit and screen mount
2nd, went nuts! kept resetting itself over night ??????
3rd, same poor connection, these need to be experienced to be believed and had to be reset twice in 2 days.

Suppose being a public forum I can't express my real feelings, but I can only strongly advise people not to buy them. I found a gps forum where people are discussing their units haing the same problem so I am not the only one. Also shops are reporting large numbers of the *10 series being returned. Halfords cannot be to specific, but strongly suggest other units instead.

Older 300's, 500's (which I have just bought) 700's etc are fine

Have borrowed a mates ICN 520 before when driving from birkenhead to colchester then on to aldershot. No problems at all (except it took me a while to get used to it, and it kept bleeping when I went over 70)

Funnily enough I had a Navman ICN520, I rated it until I used a tom tom, the speakers in the Navmans are pathetic, and they are very slow to scroll around the map but apart from that all round good unit, certainly never locked up like the Tomtom

Al, bought the Tomtom 500 straight after getting a refund on the 510

Looked at the Garmin Nuvi, Halfords are doing a nice package with full euro maps, traffic master etc, just its £100 more......... hmmm

    **Edit**
The Tomtom500 went back now got the Garmin Nuvi 310D from Halfords, its got everything: Bluetooth hands free, full Euro maps, and traffic master with lifetime subscription. Cost more than the Tomtoms @ £399 but reckon I'll be happy with this one
