You can also get a aircon "bug bomb" from most motorfactors. It's a aerosol can you let off inside the car while having the aircon on full blast in recycle mode. Probably cheaper than the stealer's prices.

A new pollen filter will get rid of a lot of the dusty smells too - mine was blocked solid when I got the car, and it wasn't even 3 years old at the time.

thats interesting to know, having had two cars with air con lately I thought that was just a normal smell after you turn it off!

Well done Darwin, that's the very ones I was thinking of. The Carplan one I've used before, and it works very well.

Any type of domestic disinfectant or anti-bacterial aerosol spray will do the job (don't know if you have it over there, but I use Glen 20 anti-bacterial). Just set the air-conditioning to recycle, fan flat out and spray it up under the dashboard on the passenger side into the system. Should be able to feel where the air is sucking in with your hand, then spray in that area. It may also be time to change the pollen filter located behind the glovebox (if you change this, give a good spray into the system while the filter is out too!).
Works a treat on all the cars I have ever had. Even helps get rid of stale cigarette smell.
    Good luck with this one.

I have the same problem. I have cleaned the system twice now and it still smells. Will cost £100 for Vauxhall to do (includes recharge). I have bought a pollen filter, but as stated above, I'm sure this isn't the issue.
