Conservative MP Boris Johnson became the highlight of a national football match in May. The Henley-upon-Thames MP was playing in a re-run of the 1966 World Cup with other celebrities and ex-footballers, set up to raise money for the Red Cross and the Bobby Moore fund.

Afterwards, Mr Johnson stated that "there was no malice in my actions. I was going for the ball with my head, which I understand is a legitimate move"
It has been suggested that Mr Johnson, who is the Tories' higher education spokesman, might be more of a rugby man.
